My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I thought this was a wonderful book about some pretty remarkable women and the management of their Households and lives. Now I know that this was mainly told from the point of view's of the maids, I really found a particular interest in Mrs. Smith who was the main homeowner in the story.
In her first few years of having maids she seemed always"Vexed" if a situation wasn't handled right, Such as dinner not being cooked to a certain "standard" and would sometimes go through at least two or three maids a week until she could obtain the right one and her dutifully faith full husband would be right there to offer his support and advice to validate her, "Unless he was out of town on business.
As the story progressed However there were times where she was left as the one who ended up doing the chores and Housework and after just two days she would be completely spent and then want more help to come crawling back to aid her.
In the end I think it was Mrs. Smith who learned a valuable lesson when she was finally able to learn to "treat others how they would want to be treated" and that in turn gave her a happier more well adjusted home life.
Now I will most likely never come into a very large amount of money like Mrs. Smith had. I just believe that a life is best lived by serving and loving people over oneself and the gain of "material" things.
And that I believe Is the main core focus in this book.
